Vanessa Wiest is the Communications Manager for the University of Iowa Office of Student Financial Aid, where she leads strategic communications across web, email, social media, and digital engagement. Her work focuses on translating complex financial aid policies into clear, accessible information that helps students, families, faculty, and campus partners make informed decisions.
Vanessa is actively involved in financial aid leadership at both the state and regional levels. She currently serves as Treasurer of the Iowa Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (IASFAA) and has contributed to numerous communications, website, and conference planning initiatives (including as chair of the 2025 IASFAA Conference) throughout her volunteer service. She recently served as Program Chair for the 2026 Midwest Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (MASFAA) Annual Conference and currently chairs MASFAA's Electronic Services Committee, where she leads the association's efforts in marketing, branding, communications, social media, and web strategy to elevate the MASFAA brand and showcase the work of its committees and volunteers.
She is currently completing her Master of Science in Business Analytics at the University of Iowa, with graduation anticipated in spring 2027, and plans to begin a Master of Arts in Strategic Communication immediately afterward. Her professional interests include digital strategy, organizational communications, analytics, leadership, and creating meaningful experiences that strengthen both organizations and the professionals they serve.
Outside of work, Vanessa stays busy with her husband, two tween boys, and an energetic family life. When she's not planning conferences or building communication strategies, you'll likely find her tending to her ever-growing collection of patio garden "babies," catching up on reality TV, or already brainstorming next year's big idea.
